EMBODI

EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) is a youth initiative designed to address issues facing African American males ages 11 through 18.

The Challenge:

AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALES CONTINUE TO BE IN CRISIS!
Throughout our 107-year history of proactive public service, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has addressed and provided solutions for a multitude of social, health, and educational challenges facing the women of the African Diaspora. However, widely accepted research data suggests that the vast majority of African-American males are not reaching their fullest educational, social, and emotional potential. At this juncture in our history, characterized by polar extremes in African-American male achievement, improving their plight is extremely timely and appropriate.

The Solution:

To “move the needle” on this issue, Delta Sigma Theta has created Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence (EMBODI). Through open dialogue and actionable recommendations, EMBODI will advance positive change. Understanding that organized collective action can achieve greater positive impact, Delta Sigma Theta is proud to join numerous other service-oriented associations and individual advocates who are actively engaged in uplifting African-American males.

How Can YOU be Involved?

EMBODI is aimed at young African American males ages 11-18. EMBODI was created out of an urgent sense that “bold action is needed to save our young males from the perils of academic failure, low self-esteem, and crippled futures”. Our program will focus on workshops to assist the young men reach their fullest potential educationally, socially, and emotionally. With that in mind, we’ve designed a program built around the following themes: self-esteem, physical health/wellness, technology, leadership, community service, non-traditional careers and much more!
