Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
A PRESIDENT'S FAREWELL
Sorors,
Two years ago, we began an incredible journey together. Wow, and what a ride it
was!
Thank you for your support, your sacrifices, and your service during my tenure.
You have been my teachers, even when I thought I knew it 'all'. You have
been my comforters when sorrow came. You came imperfectly, and
challenged my own spiritual resolve to love. But above all else, I looked
and found God in each of you. And I pray that you have encountered more of God
as you have welcomed me into your space.
For 2005-07, we had a successful recruitment of 28 reclaimed members --and as a result of our Membership Intake process, added another 29 Sisters to our roster. We focused on Health and Fitness, Social Action, Community volunteerism, as well as implemented the new Delta GEMS initiative.
Here are a few of the
highlights of the past 2 years:
- Hurricane Katrina assistance
- Unity in the Community Reclamation and Fundraiser
- DART Get Out the Vote and Voter Registration certification
- Political forum for DA candidates
- 1st Annual MDA Day at the School Board
- Coordinated Dallas Area Team for Race for Cure (raised 200% of our goal!)
- Received Award at 2006 National Convention for Health Initiative
- Delta Academy and Delta GEMS
- Incorporated "Protocol Moment" into Chapter meeting agendas
- Arts & Letters Movie Days
- Delta Love for Family Thanksgiving Baskets and Christmas Party for the needy
- Delta Development and Membership Intake Workshops
- Dallas Area Delta Presidents Council
-3rd Crimson and Cream Affair Fundraising Event (raised over $30k)
What I learned as your 7th MDA
President -
We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for
one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another. Relationships
are important. We need each other. We have to set aside our personal agendas
and egos to work together. There is absolutely no room in Delta for just "I", we
are ONE.
And
above all:
Be DEAF when people tell YOU that you cannot fulfill your dreams!

You are the S.A.L.T. of the earth.
